I'm a huge planner. I love making lists and love checking things off those lists even more. 😆
When I began thinking of this series, I had ideas all the time and needed a quick place to jot them down. I was always upstairs in my kids' rooms, so I hot glued a piece of butcher paper to the wall and hung a mechanical pencil on the paper. I filled this piece of paper for 3 years before I actually sat down to write. My kiddos were super little and I had no time to actually write - just time for ideas.
I didn't use nearly all the ideas on this paper and now I have 3 more pieces of paper glued to my walls with more ideas for future books!
I also make character profile sheets, pretty early on, but add to them as I go, as I get to know the characters.
If you'd like a copy, I've included in on this page. It's a free download. I hope it helps you in forming your characters!
When I began writing, I pictured a very steampunk type world: Victorian corsets, elaborate dresses, hats and clockwork things, airships and flying motorcycles.
But, as I continued to write, I realized I wanted a more advance type of world, but still with the steampunk style in mind. Gas lamp fantasy has fantastical elements such as dragons, creatures, magic, etc. I combined unique, complicated mechanical things with magic and after some research, realized this was something called "magitech". (I thought I had been original enough to come up with something brand new - I should have known better 😆)
I can't wait to explore this more in Book 2: Four Secrets from a Captured Soul.
